Peter Hilborne joined Bilfinger nZero in 2024 as a Software Engineer based at our Ellesmere Port facility. Having previously gained five years of PLC programming experience, Peter joined the company after taking time away from industry to complete his PhD in Control Systems Engineering from Manchester University. He became a senior engineer in 2025 and took on the role of Lead Software Engineer early in 2026.
As well as still being involved in project work, Peter manages the team of software engineers at Ellesmere port alongside contributing to the wider work of the newly created OT & Digital Solutions Division, helping align processes and continually improve the quality of software work across nZero.

Ashley is an experienced and versatile Service and Commissioning Engineer with a proven track record across onshore and offshore projects in the oil, gas and energy sectors. He specialises in ultrasonic gas flow measurement, instrumentation and complex calibrations, with hands-on expertise in gas chromatography, PLC control systems and fault diagnostics.
CompEx-certified and OPITO-approved, Ashley is highly experienced in hazardous area operations and analytical instrumentation. He leads full-cycle commissioning activities, from FAT and SAT execution through to seamless client handovers, ensuring safety, compliance and operational excellence throughout.
Known for delivering precision under pressure, Ashley brings a strong customer-facing approach to every project, building trust through technical clarity, collaboration and practical problem-solving. From hydrogen infrastructure trials to optimising legacy systems, he combines field expertise with strategic insight to support safe, effective outcomes.

Russell is an MSc-qualified HSE Manager with experience across oil and gas operations and maintenance, production, major onshore and offshore construction projects, EPC, design and engineering.
He has worked with both client and contractor teams, bringing a practical, calm and safety-focused approach to complex project environments. Russell is also experienced in supporting operations in remote, hostile and challenging locations.

Marcus joined Bilfinger nZero in 2025 and leads the Orbital portfolio of customer projects. With over 30 years of experience spanning Defence, Oil & Gas, Aviation, Renewables, and regulatory delivery in power and water utilities, he brings deep expertise in complex project environments and is passionate about driving successful outcomes.

Paul is a NEBOSH General Certified Health, Safety, and Occupational Leader with global experience in military and civilian environments. IOSH member with proven expertise in developing H&S Management Systems, SOPs, and compliance training.
Skilled in health, safety, environmental, and quality audits, with strong knowledge of international regulatory standards. Experienced in occupational health monitoring, including noise and dust assessments, and in improving food safety standards, achieving measurable reductions in ingestion-borne disease.
Proficient in accident investigations, near-miss analysis, and root cause evaluation, delivering effective risk reduction strategies. Analytical and data-driven, with the ability to translate insights into safer, more efficient processes.
A clear communicator and hands-on leader who builds capability through training, mentoring, and team development, he is happy to join the Bilfinger nZero team.

Chris joined Bilfinger nZero in 2021 and is an experienced multi skilled engineer with a passion for problem solving and utilising innovative solutions. His project management background within the Oil and Gas Industry means he’s used to delivering a wide range of projects of varying size and complexity valued from <£20k to >£10 Million.
He leads our Cyber Security & Digital Services, where his ability to understand customer needs combined with his technical background means he can competently discuss new and innovative ideas and help to grow our presence with the emerging digital industry.

Andy joined NVM in 2013 and heads up investment activity across the North West of England whilst currently representing NVM on the boards of Bilfinger nZero, Smart Payment Solutions and Inprova.
Andy started his career with Coopers & Lybrand in London where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant (ICAEW ACA) and has spent the last 30 years working in the North West Private Equity community.

Ron has extensive engineering and senior leadership experience, retiring as a board member of Siemens in 2010, leaving the business with a revenue of £5 bn and 21,000 employees worldwide.
Since retiring from Siemens, Ron has built a successful track record of supporting private equity backed businesses, providing sound governance, strategic direction and constructive challenge, with the objective of increasing shareholder value.


An experienced Proposals Manager who has been working within Bilfinger nZero for the past 24 years. Pete’s experience includes the development of, and leading, motivated professional proposals and sales teams responsible for preparing complex commercial tender packages, including cost analysis, contract review, and client negotiations working across a wide range of critical industries, both in the UK and globally.




Joined Bilfinger nZero in 2016. Ensures the process designs and projects delivered from the Staffordshire facility are on time and meet the required standards. Master of Science (MSc) focused on Professional Engineering from University of Staffordshire.




Joined Bilfinger nZero in 2022. An excellent communicator and is always willing to go the extra mile to ensure a successful project completion and customer satisfaction. Responsible for project delivery on major frameworks, based in the Ellesmere Port facility.

Joined Bilfinger nZero in 2020. Over 20+ years’ experience in the O&G sector. Responsible the day-to-day project delivery team.


Joined Bilfinger nZero in 2016. Experienced EC&I design engineer and project engineer. Responsible the day-to-day operations of the Engineering team based in the Staffordshire facility. BSc Hons in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from University of Staffordshire.


As Principal Engineer, Neil works as part of both the sales team and the project engineering group. He joined Thyson in 2019, and he can be found using highly technical skills, figuring out measurement and process solutions, involved with R&D researching new innovative technology, reviewing existing projects, seeking solutions for unforeseen issue, or helping the project teams solve an engineering problem.
Neil leads the teams developing designs solutions, finding new and adapting existing technology with our customers, and translating this into projects executed by our project teams. He also spends time considering new business areas for Bilfinger nZero to expand our reach, including the upcoming decarbonisation and hydrogen economy.

Joined Bilfinger nZero in 2023 as Mechanical Design Engineer and progressed to Lead Mechanical Engineer in 2025. Ensures the mechanical designs delivered from the Staffordshire facility meet the highest standards and also mentors the junior engineers in the mechanical aspects. BEng in Mechanical Engineering (2015) from University of Staffordshire.

Mike joins Bilfinger nZero to continue its positive trajectory towards achieving its Vision and build on its leading position in the measurement & control of fluid (gas or liquid) across the UK and Ireland
Mike has 25+ years in the Oil & Gas market with the last 15 years in leadership positions at Alderley plc initially based in the Middle East before moving to the UK in 2014.
Over the last 3+ years Mike has been leading the business development initiatives across the emerging energy transition market for CO2 and H2 measurement and digital solutions for Alderley plc.

Jon joined Orbital in 2014 as a Quantity Surveyor and was quickly appointed as Commercial Manager, taking on responsibility for the Project Department. Since then he’s held a series of senior roles, becoming a Director in 2019 and General Manager in 2021 before being appointed Head of Commercial following Orbital’s acquisition by Bilfinger nZero in May 2022.

Tristan joined Bilfinger nZero in 2006, where he began as a Service & Commissioning Engineer. His experience in the business included time as Design Engineer, Senior Project Engineer, Project Manager, Engineering Manager, and Head of Engineering & Projects. In 2023, Tristan took on the role of Bilfinger nZero Chief Engineer before moving into his current role of Head of Engineering.
With a wealth of technical expertise, high profile project delivery experience and an excellent customer satisfaction record, predominately within the oil and gas industry, Tristan is the focal point for key clients, the technical lead for core business areas and is responsible for Bilfinger nZero’s overall engineering design and project delivery.

Russell’s engineering and commercial experience spans more than three decades, gaining significant technical, process and operational experience having worked for organisations around the world.
Russell repatriated in 2011 taking a senior role at Orbital and more recently moved to Thyson, in both businesses striving for exceptional customer satisfaction. He is a Chartered Engineer, achieved an MBA, and is passionate about renewables, knowledge transfer, new technology and process optimisation that can improve our customers operational experience.

Karl joined Bilfinger nZero in 2010 as Project Manager and became a Director in 2015. Prior to joining Thyson, Karl spent 25 years in project management across the oil and gas, petrochemical and commercial sectors successfully delivering bespoke Electrical, Control and Instrumentation projects.

Nick has dedicated nearly his entire career working at Bilfinger nZero providing commercial and technical integrated solutions within the engineering sector, predominately within the oil and gas industry.
He is an integral part of the senior management team, bringing senior engineering, commercial management and manufacturing experience, as well as change management to his role, driving change and efficiency.

Neil has extensive experience in both sales and engineering, having dedicated nearly his entire career to working at Bilfinger nZero. He began as an Engineering Graduate at Orbital in 1997 and has since advanced into senior positions within both companies.
He is passionate about driving innovation, leveraging cutting-edge technologies, and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. Neil focuses on ensuring both businesses are strategically positioned to capitalise on new opportunities, benefiting partners, customers, and contributing to shared success.

Matt’s role involves providing a clear direction of travel to our people, customers and partners so they’re bought in and want to be involved in our journey. This involves getting the right people on the bus in the right seats, ensuring customers are happy and Bilfinger nZero is profitable and growing shareholder value. Matt has been with Bilfinger nZero since 2015, spending the first four years as Finance Director before taking over as Managing Director. Following a first-class honours degree in Mathematics, Matt qualified as a Chartered Accountant prior to 10 years in mergers and acquisitions and private equity. Matt then enjoyed a successful six years as a Finance Director where he was instrumental in restoring profitable growth to a Financial Services business.
